Service Description

Ages 14 and older only. No exceptions 5 sessions, Thursdays, 6:30-9:30 PM Pre-requisite: Beginning ONE and TWO Wheel Throw or equivalent experience. Objective: Challenge yourself and expand upon the skills you have learned in the Beginning Wheel-throw courses. This course will focus on the one thing every potter needs to create at least once in their lifetime, the TEAPOT. Whether you use a teapot or not isn't the point. This class is designed to help you stretch, plan and put real thought into your creation. Along with your teapot you will create a complete tea service. This will include creating a set of 4 cups and saucers, a sugar dish and a cream pitcher. If you are really motivated you'll also use either slab or your throwing skills to create a tray to hold your complete tea service. This part isn't required but really brings the whole set together. Each piece of the tea service will need to fit as part of the set. This can be accomplished by size, shape, decoration, theme, etc. In the process of creating your tea service you will learn the following skills: -Lids -Boxes -Closed forms -Narrow necks -Altering and combing forms -Creating sets of matching pieces -Design and planning -How to begin with the end in mind -Using decoration as a design element Attendance at each session is essential. There will be NO make-up sessions. Tools: -Your own set of basic tools -Sharp cutting tool like a fettling knife or carving tools. -Clear plastic ruler or calipers -Bats or bat system (MPP has a limited supply of bats for student use, having your own is nice, but not necessary) Included: 15 hours of instruction 25 pound bag of clay (current MPP members must provide their own clay) Glazes and firings 5 additional hours of self-guided studio time per week during open studio hours. Special Notes: Attendance at each session is essential. There will be NO MAKE-UP sessions. Please note: The registration system will only allow you to book up to the number of AVAILABLE seats. If you can't add more participants, the class maximum has been reached. You will need to look at other dates with more availability. This class has an 8 seat capacity. Must have 4 participants for class to carry. You will be notified in advance if the class is cancelled.o
