Service Description

Thursdays 6:00 - 8:30 PM Weekly OCTOBER 5, 12, 19, 26, NOVEMBER 2 ALL ages welcome. Children under 9 must be accompanied by and adult. Please note: The registration system will only allow you to book up to the number of AVAILABLE seats. If you can't add more participants, the class maximum has been reached. You will need to look at other dates with more availability. This class has an 10 seat capacity. Fairview Museum of History and Art is hosting this fabulous (repeating) workshop focused on introducing adults to the basics of hand-building with clay. You will learn pinch, coil, slab and glazing. Week 1: Pinch Week 2: Coil Week 3: Slab Week 4: You will combine the techniques to create your own unique project. Week 5: You will glaze all your work in preparation for the final, glaze firing. NO MAKEUP CLASSES WILL BE OFFERED. You are responsible to remind yourself to get to class. If you need to miss a week, that's okay. Each class covers the basics necessary except glazing. DO NOT miss the glazing class. You will have to sign up for another class to be able to glaze the work you created. You can expect to learn correct terminology and understand each stage of working with clay. We will have fun pushing ourselves and the clay in a safe and friendly environment. Project ideas will be suggested but design is left up to each individual with the freedom to be creative. Finished pieces will be available for pick-up about 2 weeks after the final class. You will be contacted when they are ready. You are welcome and encouraged to repeat the course again and again. This will allow you to build on what you learn each week and become highly effective in your creative efforts with clay. These are the foundation blocks of ceramic art and the sky is the limit in how far you can take it. Clay can be messy so please dress appropriately. You will be expected to help set up and clean up their your space, be patient and kind with each other and respectful to the instructor at all times. I encourage you to schedule yourself for repeated sessions. You will build on what you learn each week and grow your ability to effectively manipulate the clay. Working with clay requires patience and and persistence. 4 Participants required to carry the class. Maximum of 10 participants.
