Decorating Clay with Slip-trailing

Service Description

10:00 AM to 1:00 PM $75 per person 8 seats Ages 14+only. No exceptions Overview: Learn how to slip trail, iron-oxide wash and glaze decorate your pieces in this fun class for all pottery skill levels. You will come away with 3 finished pieces. (2) 4x4 inch tiles and (1) mug. This workshop provides the means to complete 3 clay projects within the time frame of the class and 1 additional glaze session at the studio. Previous clay experience is helpful but not necessary to complete the activities in this workshop. Processes taught do require the use of kilns. To continue creating with these process on your own, you would need access to studio equipment. Cindy will take you through her process of creating slip, adding slip decoration to the surface of clay using an applicator bottle and tip. Then apply an Iron-oxide wash to the surface adding depth to the final colors. Finally she will show you how to apply detail glazing using mid fire glazes and applicator bottles. Each step will be demonstrated. Participants will get to try each process for themselves using premade pieces. By the end of the workshop you will have a solid understanding of how to achieve highly decorated, slip-trailed pottery. You will learn using Laguna's B-mix, cone 5/6 clay and slip, cone 5/6 commercial glazes, Mayco's Stroke and Coat glazes and wax resist. Workshop includes: (1) Slip-trailed tile- 4x4 greenware tile that you decorate with slip trailing. (1) Slip-trailed tile- 4x4 bisque tile with Cindy’s design that you will iron oxide wash. This tile will be bisque fired and ready for you to glaze using Stroke and Coat glazes at a date of your choosing. (1) Slip-trailed mug- bisque fired, iron oxide washed, re-bisque fired of Cindy’s design that you will apply glazes to. It will be glazed fired and ready for pick-up at a later date. (1) One applicator bottle (1) Applicator bottle metal tip Access to glazes, tools and materials to complete the pieces.
